Ellen DeGeneres' Oscar 'selfie': The 10 most retweeted messages ever

'12 Years a Slave' may have won the big prize at last night's Oscars, but it was a tweet by TV host Ellen DeGeneres which made history.

During the prestigious ceremony, the chat show host took the ultimate selfie with the help of actors Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Kevin Spacey, among others.

The host then posted it to Twitter and it quickly became the most retweeted tweet ever - racing past 750,000 in just half an hour.

It quickly smashed the previous record set by Barack Obama's Twitter account which tweeted a picture of the President and First Lady with the caption 'Four more years' the night he won re-election.
