Ellie Goulding has claimed fasting for 40 hours is “safe”.
The pop star insists fasting is good to reduce “inflammation” and is “a great way to give you digestive system a break”.
The 33-year-old, who previously revealed she had an addiction to exercise, told how when fasting she only permits herself to drink tea, coffee and water with added electrolytes.
Goulding told The Sun: "I do it very safely by having a purposefully nutritious food day the day before and after.
"On the fast day, I drink high-grade electrolytes and a lot of water (plus tea and coffee). Fasting is safe and beneficial unless you are diabetic or have serious health issues.
“I built my way up to 40-hour fasts over time (started with 12). Fasting from time to is a great way to give your digestive system a break."
Staying fit and healthy is obviously a priority for many celebrities, particularly when you’re singer with high-energy stage performances, and Goulding has previously told how that priority turned into addiction.
She revealed in March that exercise was taking over her life and even leading to her putting visiting the gym above her music career.
Speaking to The Sun she said: "I don’t consider myself to have an addictive personality but I felt as though I did at one point have a gym addiction that was just not fun. I felt I had to go to the gym every single day.
"It got to the point where I was skipping the studio and skipping writing sessions to go to the gym, that was when it just wasn't worth it."
The star’s focus on her fitness has been inspired by husband, art dealer and fitness fanatic Caspar Jopling.
She added "I've been really inspired by my husband because he is an athlete, he has been rowing for years and I've been quite inspired by his amazing willpower and determination.”
