Ellie Goulding opens up about ‘genuine bond’ with ex Dougie Poynter
Ellie Goulding has broken her silence on her relationship with ex-boyfriend Dougie Poynter, after the pair sparked rumours of a rekindled romance during their recent appearance at London Fashion Week.
The songstress was spotted with the McBusted star at multiple events last month, after ending their two-year relationship in March last year, but has insisted they’re not romantically involved despite their “amazing connection.”
During an intimate gig in Dalston on Tuesday night, Ellie told the MailOnline: “There’s absolutely no… it’s like we’ve always been friends. He’s one of my really good friends.
“For me, when I’ve been in relationships with people, those are the people I will always hold dear to me.
“So if still maintaining a really awesome friendship with an ex is possible, then of course that’s the best thing because you’ve shared so much with that person.”
She continued: “You’ve created an amazing connection with someone and life’s too short to completely… unless something terrible has happened.
“I think it’s important to share this life with people you have a genuine bond with and you’ve shared a lot with.”
The two were last seen together at the Burberry LOVE bash for LFW, shortly after attending the Dame Vivienne Westwood fundraiser and James Jagger’s Mad Max party.
Speaking about their recent outings, the 30-year-old singer explained: “Dougie and I are both very passionate about environmental issues and climate change. We have a lot in common in that respect.
“And Vivienne Westwood is a big advocated for environmental issues, so it was a no brainer that we would go to that together.”
Shortly after their split, the McFly musician claimed that he and Ellie still “love each other very much” and have managed to remain the best of pals in the wake of their breakup.
He said: “We love each other very much. We are the best of friends. We hung out at Coachella, like all day, with her friends and my friends. It was really, really cool. Everything is totally fine.
“It’s just both being all over the place. Like I said, we still get on really well. She’s one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. But just right now, it’s hard. I’m single now.”
Oh, you guys…
