Ellie Goulding opens up about her 'lonely battle' with anxiety

Ellie Goulding has opened up about being diagnosed with exhaustion and reveals she didn’t realise how much of her health was at stake.

The 29-year-old pop princess was forced to cancel a string of in July when she was signed off by a doctor after her body reached ‘breaking point’.

The ‘burn’ hitmaker initially thought she was dying of a ‘heart attack’ when she was diagnosed with exhaustion this summer.

She told Stylist magazine: ‘I was diagnosed with exhaustion a couple of months back, but it’s only now that I realise how bad it really was.

‘When I think back to my tiredness, my slump, not wanting to exercise and not being interested in anything … It wasn’t depression, it was just my body giving up.

‘I’d have panic attacks and, to me, they felt like I was dying of a heart attack. It’s a very hot, burning feeling, like your heart is racing uncontrollably which is extra scary for me because I actually have a heart defect.’

The singer who split from McFly’s Dougie Poynter earlier this year – is encouraging other celebrities in the spotlight to discuss their mental health battles.

Ellie told the publication: ‘Too many people are quiet about mental health.

‘When you feel anxiety, it’s a very lonely feeling. It makes you feel like you’re the only person in the world feeling that way.’
