Sir Elton John has reportedly confirmed that he gave a portion of his fee from this year’s John Lewis Christmas advert to charity.

The renowned musician was unveiled earlier this week as the feature of the annual festive ad, The Boy and The Piano. Unconfirmed reports suggested he received £5 million for his appearance.

But representatives for the singer confirmed that a large portion was donated to the Elton John Charitable Trust.

Representatives for John Lewis reportedly told The Daily Star: “The speculation in recent months around Elton’s fee for appearing in the ad has been wildly inaccurate.

“When first approached to be part of it though, Elton requested that a portion of his fee was to be donated to the Elton John Charitable Trust.”

Standard Online has contacted representatives for Sir Elton for comment.

Sit Elton’s charity supports over 90 charities with a scope including health, environment and opportunity in music and the arts.

This year’s John Lewis advert sees the 71-year-old sat at a piano at home, playing the first few notes of his famous hit Your Song.

From there, it works backwards through his life, featuring some of his best-known gigs, to him in the recording studio before telling the moment he received a piano from his mother and grandmother for Christmas as a young boy.

It ends with Sir Elton sat at the same piano in the present day and the tag line: “Some gifts are more than just a gift.”

He said starring in the “wonderful” production was a “pleasure”.
