The exchange occurred during an interview on Elton's show Rocket Hour on Apple Music’s Beats 1 when the rapper called in.
Discussing Kamikaze, the "Tiny Dancer" singer said he’s “happy” that Eminem apologised for directing the word f****t at fellow rapper Tyler, the Creator on the track “Fall.”
“You’re still as feisty as you ever were which I love. I do like a little bit of feistiness,” John told the rapper, according to NME. “I’m very happy that you said you don’t get to use the word f****t anymore because I think you don’t need to… you’re bigger than that.”
“I’m so glad you said that and cleared that up and that’s great kudos to you for that. Well done,” he continued.
“I think the word that I called him on that song was one of the things where I felt like this might be too far,” he’d said. “Because in my quest to hurt him, I realised that I was hurting a lot of other people by saying it.”
The rapper also said that he kept going back to the song because he didn’t “feel right with this.”
The feud between the rappers began when Eminem took offence to comments Tyler made about him in interviews, especially one in which he said: “if you still follow Eminem, you drink way too much Mountain Dew.”
As for the rest of the rapper's recent album and its success, John praised it during the interview, telling Eminem: “For me it’s just the grittiest thing you’ve done for a while and, being a big fan of your gritty stuff, I am very happy.”
The pair also discussed their individual lengthy careers and longevity, which they attributed to hard work and passion.
“If you lose your passion you’re dead,” John concluded.
The full interview will air Saturday October 13.
