A rhesus macaque on the loose in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has evaded authorities who have attempted to capture the monkey for a week, footage from November 6 and 7 shows.
The primate, now nicknamed “el mono de Santurce,” was first spotted in a treetop on November 2 and has enthralled the nation since as a “symbol of humor and resistance,” according to the Miami Herald.
Officials from Puerto Rico’s Department of Natural and Environmental Resources set traps containing fruit to lure the monkey, to no avail.
