Elvis Presley's only grandson Benjamin Keough dies aged 27

The only grandson of Elvis Presley has taken his own life at the age of 27, dying in an apparent suicide.

Benjamin Keough, the son of Lisa Marie Presley, was found at his mother's home Calabasas near Los Angeles from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said they responded to a "rescue response" call early on Sunday morning.

"Upon their arrival, they located the victim suffering from one gunshot wound to the upper torso," they said.

"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene."

Roger Widynowski, his mother's manager, gave no details about the death, saying that Lisa Marie Presley - Elvis's only child from his marriage to actor Priscilla Presley - was "heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated".

A source close to the family has claimed that Keogh had been "struggling" for a long time and the death, though shocking, would not have come as a "huge surprise."

"She adored that boy. He was the love of her life," said Mr Widynowski, adding she was "trying to stay strong" for her daughters.

Keough seldom appeared in public, but the few photos of him showed his strong resemblance to his grandfather. He was last photographed with his mother in New York City in April 2019.

Lisa Marie Presley, 52, who has three other children, had described Keough's resemblance to Elvis as "just uncanny."

He was the younger of the two children Lisa Marie Presley had with her first husband, musician Danny Keough, before their divorce in 1994. The other is actress Riley Keough, 31.

Lisa Marie also has twin 11-year-old daughters with her fourth husband, musician and producer Michael Lockwood, who she wed in 2006 after brief marriages to pop star Michael Jackson and actor Nicolas Cage.

Keough was a musician who had done some acting and had attended the 40th anniversary of Elvis's death at the star's former home Graceland in Memphis in 2017.

In 2009, as a teenage, he signed a $5 million record deal.

"The music will be nothing like Elvis, nothing like him at all," he had said in an interview at the time.

However, he was unable to follow in his mother and grandfather's successful musical footsteps.

Nancy Sinatra tweeted: "I have known you since before your mama gave birth to you, never dreaming you would have pain like this in your life. I'm so very sorry."

Another friend, musician DJ Ashba, wrote: "This cuts me to the bone. Literally in shock. I loved Ben like a brother and always will. Till we meet again my friend."

Roy Orbison Jr, whose father performed with Keogh's grandfather, said: "Everybody please pray for Elvis Presley's family. They have had another terrible tragedy today."
