An emergency protest is being organised by the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (PSC) after Israel killed nearly 600 people in Lebanon, including children.

The current Israeli offensive against Iran-backed Hezbollah began last Tuesday, September 17, when Israel detonated a series of pagers in Lebanon, killing 32 - including children - and injuring thousands more.

Similar action was seen the following day (Wednesday, September 18) after Israel exploded walkie-talkies, with 51 killed. The attack happened in the vicinity of a large crowd that had gathered for the funerals of four victims of the previous day’s simultaneous pager blasts.

The PSC says the protest will take place at 6pm tomorrow evening (September 26) on Downing Street. On X, it wrote: “As Israel commits genocide in Gaza it has now bombed Lebanon, killing at least 558. Join PSC on Thursday at Downing Street to demand our government push for a full Ceasefire and #StopArmingIsrael.”

Over 90,000 Lebanese civilians are now displaced after five days of strikes, reports PA. A total of 200,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon since Hezbollah began firing rockets into northern Israel nearly a year ago, drawing Israeli retaliation.

The Israeli military announcement on Wednesday indicates that Israel is planning even tougher action against Lebanese group Hezbollah. It followed Hezbollah firing a missile towards Tel Aviv for the first time.

Addressing troops on the northern border, Chief of Staff Lt Gen Herzi Halevi said the latest Israeli airstrikes were designed to “prepare the ground for your possible entry and to continue degrading Hezbollah”.

In an apparent reference to the missile aimed at Tel Aviv, he said: “Today, Hezbollah expanded its range of fire, and later today, they will receive a very strong response. Prepare yourselves.”
