Emergency response after man becomes ill on city centre street
Emergency services were called to a city street today after a person became ill in the street.
Around six police cars and an ambulance could be seen outside Newcastle Civic Centre at shortly after 10am today. Northumbria Police has confirmed that one man was taken to hospital.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Shortly after 10.05am today we were alerted to a report of a man who had fallen ill in the Barras Bridge area of Newcastle city centre. Emergency services attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital for treatment."
And a North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: "We received a call at 10.04am this morning to reports of a person unwell at Newcastle Civic Centre. We dispatched two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, and a clinical team leader to the scene. One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment."
The incident happened close to where the Newcastle's civil and family courts are based.
