The suspect in a stabbing attack at a mall in Auckland, New Zealand, on September 3, was being monitored by police before he injured six people and was fatally shot.
In a statement, police said the man was under surveillance “because of concerns about his violent, extremist views.”
Details of the man’s prior arrest, conviction and release were reported by local press.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the “terrorist attack” was carried out by a “violent extremist” who was a “known threat”.
