Emergency services were called to a popular sportswear shop at a retail park in Nottingham following reports of a fire. Crews from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) were called to the JD Sports store at the Riverside Retail Park on Tuesday, October 8.

The fire started from the premises' air conditioning unit and resulted in some smoke damage throughout the shop floor. Witnesses claimed the shop was cordoned off while emergency services dealt with the incident, however, NFRS has not confirmed this.

A spokesperson for the service said: "We were called to a fire involving a premises’ air conditioning unit at Riverside Retail Park on Tuesday 8 October. Crews isolated the power, extinguished the fire using CO2 and foam extinguishers.

"There was some smoke damage throughout the shop floor. Crews completed a post-incident handover after extinguishing the fire."

It is unclear whether the shop has since reopened or whether there have been any casualties as a result of the incident.
