Fire crews rescued a 'trapped driver' involved in serious crash near Junction 9 of the M40 yesterday, Monday October 3.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue crews released a man trapped from a 3.5 tonne box van overturned on its side.

Fire crews from Bicester, Banbury and a specialist rescue vehicle from Kidlington Fire Station responded to the crash around 8.30am.

The Thames Valley Air Ambulance critical care team, South Central Ambulance Service, Thames Valley Police and Highways England Traffic Officer Service also responded to the incident.

The crews used a wide range of the specialist hydraulic equipment and techniques available to them due to the intricacy of the entrapment.

Doctors from the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service worked to ensure the safety of the driver.

The hard shoulder and one lane of the M40 was closed on the exit slip for a number of hours during the incident and subsequent recovery.
