Emergency services have raced to a "serious" crash on a Scots motorway.

Police raced to the M9 between junctions 8 and 9 shortly before lunchtime on July 7 after reports of a major car smash.

The busy motorway is currently closed southbound with a huge emergency services presence at the scene.

Images show a number of police cars, ambulances and fire engines on the carriageway. It is unclear if there are any injuries so far.

Local officers in Forth Valley posted on X about the incident. They wrote: "The M9 is closed southbound between junctions 8 and 9 due to a serious road crash.

"Emergency services were called to the scene around 11.50am. Local diversions are in place."

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
