Emerson Palmieri agrees four-year deal at Chelsea as talks continue over £20m Roma switch

Emerson Palmieri has agreed to join Chelsea on a four-year contract and his arrival to Stamford Bridge will see Kenedy move to Newcastle on loan.

Standard Sport understands that personal terms have been agreed with Emerson, who will be paid around £42,000-a-week.

Chelsea wanted to buy another left wing back in order to provide extra competition for Marcos Alonso.

Coach Antonio Conte doesn't rate Kenedy too highly and has started him just five times this term, all of which have been in the domestic cup competitions.

Emerson has been ruled out for most of this campaign with a serious knee ligament injury, but is now back to full fitness.

The fee is yet to be finalised because Chelsea are still trying to negotiate a double deal with Roma to include striker Edin Dzeko.

But it is believed Emerson will cost in the region of £20m and the 23-year-old is due in London to undergo a medical before completing the switch.

No complications are expected however because Kenedy was given permission on Monday night to travel to Newcastle to complete his loan switch to Newcastle.

Standard Sport reported last month that Rafael Benitez's side had agreed a first option with Chelsea to acquire the 21-year-old, but it depended on the Blues finding a replacement first.

Sources have told this paper that Newcastle now expect to finalise the move and hope to make an announcement tomorrow.
