One of the capital’s Arts and Crafts treasures has reopened to visitors after an 18-month closure for vital repairs.

Enthusiasts from as far afield as Australia visited Emery Walker’s House, in Hammersmith Terrace. at the weekend.

Walker was a pioneering printer who worked with designer William Morris in the Arts and Crafts Movement which promoted traditional artistic techniques in the late 19th century.

The house still contains his family’s art collection and rare Morris-designed textiles and hand-blocked wallpaper dating back to the Twenties.

Around 6,000 items were removed for cataloguing and conservation, and vital repair work was carried out on the roof.

The house will now offer extended opening hours, with tours prebookable online.
