Emilia Clarke reveals who is really to blame for the coffee cup in 'Game of Thrones'

Winter is coming ... for the truth! On Wednesday, Emilia Clarke visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she revealed who is really responsible for the infamous coffee cup that made a cameo in the final season of Game of Thrones.

The gaffe made headlines in May, when the episode first aired. In fact, HBO quickly erased the evidence from subsequent airings and on-demand recordings.

Since the cup appeared to be closest to Clarke in the scene, she has been blamed for it. Even her co-star Sophie Turner threw her under the bus during an appearance on The Tonight Show in May. “I mean, look who it’s placed in front of,” said Turner. “Emilia Clarke, she’s the culprit!”

Months later, during a pre-party for the Emmys, Clarke said she learned who was actually responsible for the gaffe. Turns out it was Conleth Hill, who played Varys.

“He pulls me aside and he's like, ‘Emilia I've got to tell you something. I've got to tell you something about — the coffee cup was mine,’” recalled Clarke. “He was like, ‘I think it was me. I'm sorry, darling I didn't want to say anything, because it seems the heat was very much on you.’"

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.
