Emily Atack quits ITV comedy show to focus on new Disney+ project

The actress is moving on to focus on her drama adaptation of Jilly Cooper's hit novel Rivals

Emily Atack will step away from her hit ITV2 comedy series as she focuses on her new Disney+ project.

The Inbetweeners star is set to put all of her efforts into filming the adaptation of Jilly Cooper's raunchy 1988 novel Rivals for the the streaming service.

The move means she will now halt all work on The Emily Atack Show for the foreseeable future with no plans to write or record any new material for the hit series currently in the pipeline.

A spokesperson for Atack, 33, confirmed the news to MailOnline with a statement.

It read: "The Emily Atack show has been a great success so far, and Emily is discussing future opportunities about the series, but because Emily is flat out filming for her new Disney+ show she hasn't had a moment to sit down and write new material or commit to any filming dates.

"She's hoping she will have time to revisit The Emily Atack show in 2024."

Atack debuted her comedic series back in November 2020, two years after her stint in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! which saw her finish as a runner up after proving herself to be a big hit with fans of the show.

The actress performed a series of sketches in the series where she mimicked stars such as Holly Willoughby and Gemma Collins as well as performing a stand-up comedy routine.

Atack regularly shared stories from her personal and love life as part of her act – including the time she claimed to behaving a three-way relationship with a married couple.

Rivals will see her join a star studded cast including former EastEnders star Danny Dyer, one time Doctor Who David Tennant, Poldark's Aidan Turner and Sex Education star Bella Maclean.

Atack will take on the role of deputy prime minister Paul Stratton's – played by Rufus Jones – new wife Sarah Stratton.

She will reportedly film an infamous scene from the book where the ambitious character strips naked to play tennis with her lover.
