Eminem fans were given a treat on Friday as the rapper dropped a surprise album, titled Kamikaze.

The controversial star announced the release of his 10th studio album on his Twitter account at midnight, with no prior warning.

He posted a link to download the album, writing: “Tried not 2 overthink this 1... enjoy. #KAMIKAZE Out Now.”

The 13-track album features cover art inspired by the Beastie Boys’ iconic 1986 album Licensed to Ill and was executive produced by Dr Dre.

Kamikaze includes tracks featuring Bon Ivor’s Justin Vernon as well as Joyner Lucas, Jessie Reyez and Kendrick Lamar.

Eminem – real name Marshall Mathers – only released his ninth studio album, Revival, late last year and most recently featured on Nicki Minaj’s new album, Queen.

Two of the tracks on his new offering are under a minute and appear to be voicemails between the rapper and his manager Paul Rosenberg.

In one recording, Rosenberg tells him: “Are you really going just to deride everybody who, you don’t like what they have to say about you or the stuff you’re working on?

“I don’t know if that’s really a great idea, it’s like what’s next, ‘Kamikaze 2,’ the album where you reply to everybody who didn’t like the album that you made replying to everybody that didn’t like the previous album?

“It’s a slippery slope, I don’t know if it’s really a good idea.”

Never one to shy away from controversy, Eminem mentions Donald Trump, Mike Pence, the press and the Grammy Awards in his lyrics.

Kamikaze is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and iTunes.
