Emma Stone’s new series The Curse gets divisive Rotten Tomatoes reviews
Emma Stone's new TV series The Curse has been met with divisive critics reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The satirical comedy-drama, which is out on 10 November, follows Stone and Nathan Fielder as a newly married couple who try to conceive a child while they star in an HGTV show and deal with an alleged curse.
While she has found success this year on the movie front with Poor Things, with a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 100%, her latest foray into TV is proving a little less popular so far.
At the time of writing, the show, which also stars Benny Safdie, sits on a Rotten Tomatoes score of 80%, which is a good score. However, a closer look at the reviews suggests it could be a divisive show.

Many critics did enjoy it, despite calling it a difficult watch with plenty of "cringe" moments. Belen Edwards (Mashable) wrote: "As tough as it can be to watch at times — I dare you to go five minutes without cringing — there's no doubt that The Curse is one of the funniest, strangest, and most unsettling shows of the year."
Caryn James (BBC) claimed: "The Curse is already one of the most richly imagined and acted shows of the year." And Suzannah Ramsdale (London Evening Standard) explained: "It jack-knifes from awkward to tense to borderline horror to hysterical to surreal and it’s one of the best shows I’ve seen this year."
However, not all critics were as impressed. Kathryn VanArendonk (New York Magazine/Vulture) observed: "The show leaves too many of its ideas undeveloped, especially from its central themes about race and constructions of the self."

Alan Sepinwall (Rolling Stone) wasn't a fan of the series at all, writing: "In the end, the mix of tones and genres is more confounding than exciting, as if Fielder and Safdie weren’t sure what they ultimately wanted to accomplish beyond hours of oppressive claustrophobia in desperate search of release."
These contrasting reactions from some of the industry's top critics suggest that the show won't be to everyone's tastes, particularly as it appears to have a very strong flavour in terms of tone and style.
The Curse will premiere on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime and Paramount+ subscribers on November 10.
