Emmerdale actor calls out "cruel" comments towards co-star

Emmerdale's Dominic Brunt has once again shut down those making nasty comments towards his co-star Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas Dingle on the soap.

Both characters are currently involved in high-profile and hard-hitting storylines on the soap. Brunt's character Paddy has been dealing with the aftermath of Chas cheating on him, and both have experienced shared grief over their daughter Grace's death.

Recently, Chas and Paddy's best friend Marlon intervened, after Paddy's depression escalated to the point where he considered taking his own life.

Brunt lamented cruel comments aimed at his "dear friend" Pargeter online, and praised her for her "amazing" contribution to the important storyline.

"Wow!! People still being pretty damned cruel and personal towards my dear friend @lucyparge," he tweeted today (March 7).

"IT'S A STORY. Lucy has selflessly played this story for all it's worth, knowing she/Chas would be disrespected and insulted on social media, and STILL hit all the beats. Amazing actress."

For her part, Pargeter also shared her thoughts on Twitter, writing: "And to think that most of the profiles to proudly paste the #bekind on the profile, quickly moved onto the next # they could equally be part of…

"I hope your children or in some cases, grandchildren are proud of you!! What fine examples of hypocrisy and schadenfreude."

This isn't the first time Brunt has spoken publicly in defence of his friend and co-star, as he defended her from vile remarks at the height of Chas's affair storyline.

"You want to throw Twitter against a wall sometimes because the whole point of Emmerdale is it’s about the drama," he said recently.

"It's especially aimed at Lucy this time You see them posting things like, 'I hate that character, sack her.'

"Sorry, you're wishing for someone to lose their job because you're angry about their storyline? But you're enjoying it!"

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
