Emmerdale has aired alarming new drug scenes for Leyla Harding.

Viewers know that Leyla has secretly started using cocaine, with nobody in her life aware of her addiction aside from friend Suzy Merton.

While Leyla has sworn to Suzy that she'll quit, her true colours showed during a conversation with Jai Sharma in Thursday's (June 2) episode.

Leyla had been dealing with the aftermath of an explosive outburst towards Priya, especially after Jai found out about the row between the two mates.

Jai promised Priya he wouldn't get involved, but later confronted Leyla because she wasn't acting like her usual self of late.

The subject soon turned to Jai's own erratic behaviour in the past when he was on drugs, as he revealed the impact of his actions was still with him to this day.

Jai inadvertently got Leyla scheming when he mentioned he still kept a scrap of paper with his former drug dealer's number.

Leyla convinced Jai that he should burn the paper in order to fully commit to living sober. After the symbolic burning, viewers realised what Leyla was up to.

"I think we both got what we needed today," Leyla told Jai.

As Jai left, Leyla revealed she'd actually burned another scrap of crumpled paper — and kept the number for Jai's drug dealer for herself.

How long will Leyla be able to keep her drug addiction a secret?

Emmerdale airs at the earlier time of 7pm this week on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
