Emmerdale has seemingly drawn a line under the 'Who Killed Emma Barton?' storyline by letting Moira Dingle get away with murder.

Moira was given a lifeline in Tuesday night's episode (January 16), as Emma's sons Ross and Pete decided not to report her to the police for killing their mum.

Dramatic scenes this week have seen Moira confess everything to Ross (Michael Parr), who quickly spread the word to Pete.

Although the Barton boys were left with a dilemma over what to do next, they ultimately decided to let Moira off the hook.

Pete and Ross knew their family's suffering had gone on for too long already, so reporting Moira to the police would only make everyone even more miserable.

They also didn't want Moira's baby son Isaac to grow up without his mum around, like they'd had to when Emma abandoned them all those years ago.

Although Moira won't be facing legal repercussions, she acknowledged that she'd had to pay for her actions in another form – losing her son Adam.

Adam has gone on the run after taking the rap for Moira's crime and she now fears that it's unlikely she'll ever see him again.

Moira's lucky escape will come as no surprise to Emmerdale fans, as Natalie J Robb – who plays her – always made it very clear that she wasn't leaving the show.

Speaking last month about whether Moira's guilt would lead to an exit, Natalie replied: "They told me that wasn't the case. If it happened, it is in the lap of the gods and there is nothing I can do. I have just signed for another year, so you have another year of me yet!

"Robert Sugden has murdered, but he is still here. I was quite grateful to be involved with it, to be honest. When they described it to me, it hadn't been written at that point. I enjoyed all the twists and turns and curveballs. It was nice to be part of that."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
