Emmerdale has hinted that Belle Dingle could be the one to bring twisted Lachlan White to justice after she stumbled across Gerry Roberts' phone tonight.
Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) is now in possession of the incriminating voicemail that Lachlan left Gerry prior to causing the carnage that killed his mum Chrissie and grandfather Lawrence.
Lachlan (Thomas Atkinson) attempted to make contact with Gerry in the moments before the crash, with the phone seemingly still running while he revealed his evil plans to his family.
Fans have already been suspecting that the important voicemail could lead to Lachlan being caught out, but it was clear that Gerry hadn't listened to the message as he visited his friend in hospital tonight (January 12).
Gerry and Belle both supported Lachlan in the wake of Chrissie and Lawrence's tragic deaths – completely unaware of the role he played in them.
It did look like Lachlan might come clean at one point when he confided in Belle that he was to blame, but he ended up only telling her half the story – lying that Chrissie lost control of the car while arguing with him.
Oblivious to Lachlan's dark secret, Belle vowed to stand by him as he awaited news on Rebecca's condition, but a later scene hinted that she could be about to discover the awful truth.
After stumbling across Gerry's phone on the hospital floor, Belle was intrigued to see a message from Lachlan on there – but fans will have to wait and see if she decides to listen to it or not.
With Belle now in possession of the phone, it's surely only a matter of time before it gets back to Gerry, but will this lead to Lachlan's downfall? Or is he going to get away with murder?
