Emmerdale star Charley Webb has spoken out about her controversial acid attack storyline – and has said she hopes it will soon come to a close.

The 30-year-old actress, who’s been an Emmerdale regular since 2002, spoke to the Metro about her controversial acid attack storyline.

“That story has been a bit muddled and confused, she never ordered the acid, the acid was just something that that guy did even though she did just want Joe to get beaten up for what he’d done.

“That’s a very Dingle thing to do – the Dingles get people beaten up all the time and her dad is Cain, it’s natural territory for her for that to happen,” Webb said.

Staying true to her bolshy Dingle roots, Debbie had arranged for her then enemy Joe Tate to be beaten up back in February this year. However, the hired thug mistook her ex Ross Barton for Tate and threw acid in Barton’s face – permanently scarring him.

And last week saw Debbie finally jailed for her involvement in the shocking crime.

Webb went on to say that her character is only partly to blame for the brutal attack and that she’d like to see the storyline ‘put to bed’ once and for all.

“I am glad that it’s out because I would quite like to put that story to bed now for that character because it should never really have been about Debbie, it should’ve been what happened to Ross, and she was just unfortunately part of that, she didn’t actually order the acid so I do think it’s quite a difficult one,” she explained.

Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
