Emmerdale confirms hour-long specials for Super Soap Week

ITV has confirmed its programming for Super Soap Week, with Emmerdale to air two hour-long specials.

In the week beginning Monday, October 9, Emmerdale will air as usual at 7.30pm on Monday and Wednesday, followed by two 60-minute specials on Tuesday, October 10 and Friday, October 13 at 7pm.

Additionally, there will be only one episode on Thursday, October 12 at 7:30pm, as the soap makes way for the Pride of Britain Awards.

Emmerdale's Super Soap Week offering this year is expected to involve a dramatic car crash stunt as the love triangle between Chloe Harris, Mackenzie and Charity Boyd is resolved.

Filming for the stunt suggests that Charity and Mackenzie will survive the hilltop crash, which sees the car fall from a cliff, while Chloe's fate is left uncertain.

Recently, Charity's estranged husband Mack had been conflicted over his feelings for the two women after Chloe gave birth to his son following a brief affair last year, recently becoming engaged to the new mum despite hooking up with Charity.

Speaking about the dramatic climax to the story, Charity actress Emma Atkins told Digital Spy she was thrilled to be involved in the storyline.

"I'm very excited!" Emma said. "I just know that it's going to be spectacular in one way or another and we're due to get the scripts shortly, but it's going to be quite big."

Meanwhile, ITV's other soap, Coronation Street, will resume its regular broadcasting schedule of hour-long episodes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm after weeks of schedule changes.

There will be similarly dramatic scenes over on the cobbles during Super Soap Week, with some expected to involve serial killer Stephen Reid's ongoing storyline.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
