Emmerdale's Jai Sharma is a thorn in Megan Macey's side next week as he fights her for custody of their baby daughter Eliza.

The former couple's existing arrangements over Eliza are thrown into doubt after Megan infuriates Jai (Chris Bisson) by accidentally losing their young child when she's supposed to be looking after her.

As we've already revealed, Megan makes a terrible mistake later this week when she carelessly forgets that she has Eliza with her and leaves her unattended in the car.

This leads to horror when Eliza goes missing for a while, and although there's fortunately not a tragic outcome, Jai is appalled that Megan would be so foolish.

As Jai considers his options next week, he confides in his troublesome new love interest Nell by explaining how he's been through a custody battle before over Archie and lost.

With Jai worried about what could happen next, Nell comforts him at the café by putting her hand onto his. However, this could be an intimate moment they live to regret as Megan's partner Frank Clayton watches on – armed with a cameraphone and determined to find any way to boost Megan's case.

Later in the week, Megan and Jai come face-to-face at a custody meeting and tensions run high as they clash over recent events.

With scheming Jai knowing how to push all the right buttons (as usual!), he finds it easy to wind up Megan while coming across as the picture of calm himself.

Fortunately, the social worker reckons this is a situation that can be easily resolved amicably, much to Megan's relief. But could these words of reassurance mean that Megan and Frank let their guards down around Jai too soon?

Gaynor Faye, who plays Megan, recently explained: "Jai has got so much ammunition now. It's his ace card and Jai works like that. In Megan's eyes, Jai is always looking for something to use against her to get his own way.

"Jai can't believe that Megan would be so stupid. He takes advantage and twists it when social services get involved, because he wants to get more access to his daughter.

"As Gaynor I can empathise with Jai, but Megan decides there's no way he's getting access to Eliza and she goes into defensive mode."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
