Emmerdale fans have branded Matty's plan to keep himself safe while in jail as "ridiculous" but have been full of praise for a new character.

In the latest episode of the show, Matty's saga in jail continued after Robbo found out he was transgender. Now, his cellmate Les, who has been protecting him, is leaving the jail.

This left Matty scrambling to try to find a way to stay safe. However, Moira and Amy soon received a call saying he had been rushed to hospital.

The pair arrived for a visit to find Matty had a fractured eye-socket and would not tell guards who had done it.

At the end of the episode, Les visited and it turned out it was Les who had beaten him up at Matty's request to get him out of the jail, but that Matty would soon return to his cell.

Now, fans have said Matty's plan was "ridiculous" while fans have also been full of praise for Les and how willing he was to help out.

@fussyMcWhiskers said: "That is ridiculous! Getting your cell mate beat you up - Why not just let the thug beat you up instead?"
