Emmerdale fans fury as they slam 'utterly insane' writers over Cain and Ruby twist

In tonight's episode of Emmerdale, Moira goes under the knife and Cain can't handle his emotions, so he goes in need of comfort in another resident - however this storyline was not a hit with the fans.

Although they have been providing a united front before Moira goes into surgery, on the day, despite his 'best efforts' Cain cannot control his emotions as he shows frustrations towards the doctors and nurses - to which Moira tells him to go home. Despite being told that she is in safe hands, Cain reluctantly leaves Moira at the hospital after giving a teary hug goodbye.

As he attempts to leave, he is intercepted by Sam who tries his best to make him stay but Cain insists he is going to work so he can be distracted and not worry about Moira. As he leaves, Sam warns him that if he does, he will do something stupid to which he replies 'if I don't then I will do something fatal here'.

Meanwhile in the operating room, Moira is being comforted by a nurse as they wait for her to go under with the anaesthesia. As she counts back from 10 she is day dreaming about being back at home with her two sons who are playing operations next to her and using surgical words spoken by the lead nurse.

Moira's sons ask to play outside - to which she agrees and tells them to put their wellies on - but looks down to see she already has hers on. As she stands up, she can see herself in the mirror but with the hospital gown on.

Later, she is outside watching her sons play football - to which she is joined by her dead daughter Holly. At first, Moira is shocked but gives her a hug before Holly says she is 'better now'. The moment is interrupted by a doctors voice talking in the operating room.

The pair are then seen next to Holly's grave - to which she apologises for her actions towards her mum and family to which Moira says 'it doesn't matter' but Holly says 'we have time now' - to which the surgeon talks again saying Moira is having a seizure and is bleeding. Looking confused, she asks Holly if she can hear the voice talking.

Moira is then offered Holly's hand as she asks her to walk with her but Moira is worried about her sons - the scene is then back in the hospital room where a deadline is heard on the heart monitor and Moira is seen with a bandage on her head from the surgery.

She then wakes up confused asking for Holly but the nurse thinks she forgot her name so she reminds her and tells her that the operation went well despite some bleeding and having a seizure in the middle of it.

Cain is soon next to her and apologises to the nurse and thanks her for saving Moira's life. Moira tries to tell Cain about Holly - but he is appeasing her because of her state but is drawn back to reality when she says he smells like Whiskey. He tells her to rest but as she does, she tells him he loves her 'always' and holds her hand with blood on his knuckles.

Little does Moira know, that while she has been out - Cain has been up to no good by going on a rampage in the village by punching Jimmy and having 'some fun' in the garage with Ruby. As he holds Moira's hand, Cain receives a text from Ruby saying 'today never happened' - but a secret never stays a secret in the Dales.

Furious fans took to X to release their anger about the episode. @TraylorHolmes said: "CAIN! No… #Emmerdale " And @ericaconnolly77 said: "Emmerdale was so good until the Cain and Ruby scene! "

@Gulftastic added: "Well, #Emmerdale , an excellent first half with a genuine shock appearance. I should have known it wouldn't last as the Random Couple Generator struck again. You bloody idiots. And are you having a bet to see just how stupid you can make Jimmy?"
