Emmerdale fans have been sharing their grief over the death of popular character Liv Flaherty, the latest victim of the soap's storm.

Fans of the show praised the acting of Isobel Steele in her final scenes as Liv, who was crushed by a caravan that blew towards her in strong winds but was still alive for long enough that husband Vinny (Bradley Johnson) and brother Aaron (Danny Miller) could say goodbye.

Viewers couldn't believe that Liv had been killed off in the ITV soap's 50th anniversary week, which has also seen Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) crushed by a quad bike, while Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) died from cancer just before the storm began.

One fan tweeted: "Liv's death is one of the most heartbreaking soap deaths."

Someone else agreed: "Liv’s death one of the saddest I’ve seen in a while."

Another heartbroken viewer wrote: "Just watched Liv's final scenes on Emmerdale and didn't expect to still be a crying mess 30 mins later... not only have we lost Liv tonight, but we've also lost the only asexual character on British TV, and one of the best asexual representations out there. Sad day all around..."

Miller led tributes to Steele's performance, tweeting: "The moment that young girl walked into the room and delivered what was an outstanding performance. Myself and everyone in that very room knew we had a rising star on our hands. Now, she leaves a woman with the world at her feet. My best friend, my little sister, my Liv..

"@Isobel_steele - thank you for the last 7 years. The bond Aaron & Liv had was incomparable. Nobody ever came close. And that’s why you’ll always be in my life. Your Mum, Dad & Con will be so proud. Onward and upwards now for you our kid! Love you mate. See you at the caravan."

Viewers agreed, as one person tweeted: "Oh goodness what an amazing performance from the actress playing Liv. You have broken our hearts."

Someone else wrote: "just switched over to #emmerdale and can't believe they have just killed liv off. in pieces and can we just talk about the acting from both danny and isobel."

One fan offered condolences to Miller's character, tweeting: "abused by his dad, been to prison about 30 times, gets attacked all the time, two boyfriends are dead, one sister dead, mum has been in relationships with multiple murderers, husband in prison… and now his other sister is dead - the producers hate aaron."
