Emmerdale fans suspicious over Nate's strange exit

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale fans have become suspicious over Nate Robinson's strange exit.

Viewers have known for months that cast member Jurell Carter would be leaving the ITV1 soap, but the details surrounding his departure have caused a stir.

Before Moira Dingle was diagnosed with a brain tumour last week, she had been acting out of character. One such incident saw her try to kiss stepson Nate, though he instantly rejected her.

A chain reaction involved Cain viciously attacking his son because he wrongly believed Nate and Moira had reignited their affair.

Once Nate's estranged wife Tracy discovered the near-kiss, the couple's hopes to reconcile were called off. Nate was last shown talking with John Sugden about whether he should confront Moira.

Monday's (September 16) episode brought an alarming update as Nate was only communicating with people through text messages — he was refusing to speak directly to anyone.

Tracy explained to Vanessa and Victoria that Nate had texted to ask her to stop calling him because his head was "a mess".

Some viewers have now started to suspect there may be more than meets the eye to Nate's sudden departure from the village.

It had been established prior to Nate's disappearance that he was planning to leave Emmerdale to take a farming job in Shetland.

One viewer asked on Twitter/X: "Is Nate really still alive or is he dead somewhere and someone has got his phone....." Another fan replied: "My money's on John."

"Either Nate really is in Shetland or he's kidnapped hence going to voicemail. Has Jurell done a goodbye message?" one person asked, with another asking: "Was it Nate that text or someone else ya never know in that village."

Whether or not John Sugden had some part in Nate's disappearance remains to be seen, but there have been hints he has a dark side.

John previously got angry with Victoria for asking questions about his past, after she'd found some dog tags with the name 'Aidan Moore' among his belongings.

Following his exit scenes airing last week, Jurell Carter spoke about why Nate felt it was time to move away from the village.

"Nate's initial decision of moving to Shetland was for his family. He just felt stuck in a rut," he explained. "He was working at the farm and wasn't making a massive amount of money. He mentioned that he could barely afford to rent a place on his current wage, so he knew that things had to change. Moving to Shetland was the drastic change that he needed.

"Nate wanted to have his own space for him, Frankie and his family unit. Everything has now shattered apart, as he's lost his family and everything else."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
