Emmerdale fans told there 'won't be a dull moment' as soap makes exciting announcement

Emmerdale has announced Sophie Roper has joined Laura Shaw as producer for the ITV soap.

Sophie has been carrying out the role since April when her predecessor Kate Brooks was appointed the producer for Coronation Street. Sophie will be part of the production team reporting to and working in conjunction with executive producer for continuing drama Iain MacLeod and John Whiston, managing director of continuing drama and head of ITV in the north and ITV’s drama commissioner Huw Kennair-Jones.

Sophie is moving from her role as story producer for Emmerdale. A position she has held since joining Emmerdale in July 2016.

Sophie Roper said: “As a lifelong soap fan, I feel privileged to be part of such an iconic and well-loved programme and I’m thrilled to be taking the show forward as producer, alongside an incredibly talented and dedicated team.

“Emmerdale truly is a special place both on and off-screen and as we embark on this next chapter, I look forward to bringing more bold and ground-breaking drama to the Dales.”

After graduating from Sheffield Hallam University with a BA in English literature and media, Sophie started her career in serial drama at Coronation Street as a trainee Location Manager. She spent two years working as a location manager, before making the transition into the editorial department as a storyliner.

During her time on the Emmerdale team, Sophie has been responsible for helping to craft some of Emmerdale’s most memorable and momentous storylines including Pierce’s coercive control over Rhona, Maya Stepney’s grooming of teenager Jacob, Charity’s flashback episode, Faith Dingle’s critically-acclaimed cancer storyline and Meena Jutla’s murderous village rampage.
