Emmerdale has announced that one of their crew members has sadly passed away. As a mark of respect to their colleague, filming was halted today (Thursday, March 25).
In a statement to Digital Spy, Emmerdale confirmed that the ITV soap "stood filming down for today" following the sad news of their colleague's passing.
It was also noted that the crew member's family has asked for privacy, so their name has not been publicly released.
The statement read: "We can confirm an Emmerdale crew member has very sadly passed away. Our sincerest and heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and loved ones of our colleague.
"As a mark of respect, we have stood filming down for today. We'd like to abide by the family's wishes for privacy at this very sad time and we'd ask the media to be respectful of this."
Emmerdale has made dedications to memorable figures from cast and crew on numerous occasions over the years.
Last year, the soap paid an on-air tribute to a long-time crew member who sadly passed away. The episode, which aired back in December, concluded with a title card memorialising the late Cliff Perry, a props manager who worked on the ITV soap for 25 years, alongside tributes from cast members.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
