Emmerdale legend Samantha Giles opens up on a possible return to 'restrictive' soap

An Emmerdale legend has discussed the prospect of a possible return to the ITV soap.

Last year, we said goodbye to character Bernice Blackstock with acting star Samantha Giles pursuing new opportunities. Samantha, 52, is currently touring the country starring in the theatre production of The Syndicate.

During an interview with the Metro, Samatha, an Emmerdale mainstay for many years, was asked if she’d return to the show. She replied: I don’t feel I’d want to go back to Emmerdale at the moment. I’m enjoying doing other things, and the show changes. I haven’t had a chance to see what’s going on with the show, so I don’t know whether Bernice would fit into it at the moment. Who knows?

“They might not want the character to come back. I don’t think they’ve killed her or anything – they could still do that. It’s something that’s there for the future possibly, or not. Never say never is what I’m saying. For now, I’m enjoying doing lots of different things.

“It’s a wonderful job but it’s restrictive in a way that you’re obviously signed to them and that’s that. I never had the chance whilst at Emmerdale to do other work’ she continued.

“Sue Cleaver from Corrie has gone off to do Sister Act – she’s doing other things and then going back, but they don’t really let people do that on Emmerdale.”
