Emmerdale Les' connection to the Dingles 'exposed' as fans rumble 'hidden agenda'

Emmerdale fans think they’ve rumbled a key link between Cain Dingle and Matty Barton’s new cellmate Les.

Matty is currently on remand for stabbing Samson Dingle, despite his mum Moira’s pleas for Samson to tell the truth – that Matty had acted in self-defence. But with Samson set to flee the village to go travelling, things aren’t looking good for Matty.

The ITV soap recently aired worrying scenes when his wife Amy accidentally outed Matty as a trans man to his transphobic fellow inmate Robbo. Les managed to protect Matty the first time, but was later released from jail – leaving Matty to fend for himself. A brutal attack left him fighting for his life, and Matty lied that he was beaten up by transphobic thugs.

In another twist, it was later revealed that Matty had actually been beaten up by Les – begging his cellmate to assault him so he could get to hospital and away from the thugs. Matty was left with broken ribs, a fractured eye socket and bruises all over his face – and only got two days’ reprieve.

Fans, however, think they’ve exposed a key connection between Les, the perpetrator of the staged attack, and Matty’s step-dad Cain – after he seemed to recognise the name when it was brought up in prison. Fans think the pair might have shared a cell when Cain was incarcerated.

One viewer tweeted: “I think Les is an old cellmate of Cain’s!” While someone else agreed: “I have got a feeling that Les is in it for the long run and I got a feeling that Les is an old cellmate of Cain’s. And Matty asked him to beat him up to keep him safe.”

Somebody else said: “I just have a feeling Les is going to break his licence conditions deliberately to end up back inside. I can picture it now, him returning to the cell just in time to stop Matty getting hurt again!”

Plenty more fans have called for Les to be made a permanent character, with one penning: “Dear Emmerdale, where do I sign the petition to keep Les in the village? Please and thank you!”

Another followed up: “I like Les, can we keep him please?” but someone else fretted: “If Les was to stay, I’m not sure I trust the writers to do good things with his character.”

A different social media user echoed: “Emmerdale has introduced so many useless characters in the last couple of years, I hope they've got the sense to make Les permanent. He's been great so far.” And someone else penned: “I really like Les I hope he stays a regular character, I just have this feeling the writers have other ideas…”
