Emmerdale has moved to reassure fans after a backlash against a distressing storyline.

As part of the ongoing abuse storyline from Tom King towards Belle Dingle, we recently saw Tom turn on his pet dog. In shocking scenes, he loomed over adorable pup Piper with a syringe in his hand.

Tom said: "Don't worry, this is going to hurt me more than it hurts you...then again, maybe not."

The cameras cut away as the pup started whimpering. Many Emmerdale fans took to social media to express their concerns.

It has been reported Ofcom received hundreds of complaints about the scenes. In a move to reassure fans, Emmerdale has released some behind-the-scenes footage from the ITV soap.

After previously assuring viewers that Minnie, the dog who plays Piper, wasn’t harmed during the filming of the scenes, the soap has released another video via X to ease fans’ worries.

The caption read: “Some scenes can be upsetting to watch, but Minnie (AKA Piper) is treated with nothing but love and lots of cuddles on set #Emmerdale.” The footage featured James Chase, who plays Tom King, interacting with Minnie.
