Emmerdale's Ellis Chapman will be surprised by the appearance of his father in upcoming episodes of the ITV show.

In scenes airing next week, Jessie Dingle (Sandra Marvin) angrily lashes out after resigning from her job and being confronted by Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) in relation to what happened with Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein), the schoolteacher who groomed Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).

Jessie begins to blame Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) as they – along with Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) and Ellis Chapman (Asan N'Jie) – walk home. They are watched by a mysterious figure.

This mysterious figure turns out to be none other than Ellis' father Al Chapman, who surprises Ellis.

Ellis tries to warn Jessie at April Windsor's (Amelia Flanagan) birthday party, but Al arrives at the occasion as well, leading Jessie to introduce him to Marlon.

Al is played by Michael Wildman, known for his roles in films such as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Ready Player One.

Teasing his role, Wildman said last month: "Al's come into Emmerdale ruffling a few feathers. He has been abroad on business. It's not clear what his intentions are. Al is trying to build the bridge with his son Ellis but thinks he can just come back in to his life and pick up where he left off.

"He doesn’t have to do much to make Jessie's husband Marlon feel insecure. He's going to be an interesting character."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with extra episodes at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
