The jury, though, is sympathetic to Liam as he fights back tears on the stand. But then things get vicious, with the defence team accusing him of conducting an affair with Meena. And after allowing his anger to get the better of him, Liam worries that his meltdown will have alienated the jurors.
A verdict is reached
The next day, it’s Manpreet’s turn to take the stand and she’s resolute: Meena must be destroyed in court. And, to be fair to her, Manpreet keeps her cool, despite the attempts by lawyers to delve into her past and portray her as a seasoned liar.
Naturally, though, Meena has a plan. She already has prison officer Ian wrapped around her little finger thanks to some outrageous flirting. And, wanting to grab her share of the limelight, she rejects the advice of her legal team and opts to give testimony.
As ever, she puts on a barnstorming performance in front of an enthralled jury. But will they believe her display of vulnerability? And what verdict will be reached? All we can say is that the events at the trial are set to make a sizeable impact on the community at large, with Meena’s story hitting the news the following morning…
Rhona is struggling
April is determined to make Rhona’s birthday an occasion to remember but a planned party in the Woolpack clashes with a visit to see Marlon. No problem, says Chas and suggests Cain take her place at the hospital so she can enjoy the celebrations for April’s sake.
But when Rhona starts pining for Marlon and decides to head off, April begs to be allowed to accompany her. In the end, April does end up seeing her dad, who relaxes while in her company. And Rhona is moved to tears by the sight of April handling the situation so maturely.
By the week’s end, Marlon will be seen managing to complete a sentence for the first time since the stroke. But Mary can’t help but feel that her daughter is being delusional when Rhona sets her sights on getting him home as soon as possible.
Paddy, though, is on the same page as Rhona, who’s left delighted when he reveals that he has a plan up his sleeve to raise Marlon’s spirits.
Belle and Al are partners
Hoping for a future beyond the B&B, Belle begins her journey in meditation teacher training. And she’s also on the receiving end of an apology from Al, with whom she eventually agrees to go into partnership.
But as they make their deal, Belle is quick to establish some ground rules – and Al can’t help but be impressed by her savviness.
