Emmerdale is lining up a shock exit for Megan Macey as Digital Spy understands that actress Gaynor Faye has quit the soap.

The star initially revealed the news to OK! Magazine, revealing she wanted to explore other projects, stating: "It's a risk. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone."

Gaynor's character Megan was recently involved in the beginning of a custody war between herself and Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson), as the former came clean about her involvement in a recent accident.

Earlier this month, she was responsible for causing the car crash that led to Eric Pollard being run over when she got distracted while driving.

Gaynor has previously hinted that her character could end up behind bars because of her involvement in the accident, which may be the reason why Megan leaves the show.

"If Megan goes to prison, I don't think it'd be a great place for her. I think she'd definitely get into a lot of trouble in prison," she said.

"But that could be a good thing – it'd be great to play. We have got a little prison set because so many people go to prison on this show!"

Emmerdale currently airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
