Emmerdale star Jane Cox has opened up about her future career plans following her character Lisa Dingle's exit.

In heartbreaking scenes last night (May 23), Lisa passed away after battling a terminal illness, with Zak finding her unconscious on the sofa following their wedding.

"Oh no, this is too soon," he sobbed. "This is too soon, Lisa."

Jane has played the role since 1996, and appearing on today's (May 24) This Morning, she teased her future plans.

"Oh, I'm open to doing some acting, but not a serial drama," the actress said. "Because it doesn't allow you the time to perhaps do other bits and pieces. I bake bread now and make jam, and make wine from our apple trees. I enjoy doing that kind of thing."

She elaborated: "I like to write. I don't finish things very well but I've got some ideas for a book that I've started. And a couple of films that I've been working on for years, that I've never brought to fruition. I'm at a good place to do that now, I think."

However, Jane ruled out appearing on any sort of reality show, adding: "No, I wouldn't do that. I've got my own private life, I'm an actor more. I don't consider myself to be a celebrity in that way."

The actress recently spoke to Digital Spy on how she felt about Emmerdale killing off Lisa, saying: "I think it's better, really. I think it tells a complete story and there's a lot of people out there who are dealing with terminal illnesses.

"I know that when it was revealed on screen, there were a lot of people writing in who have also got this illness. They said: 'Thank goodness you're raising the issue.' So it tells the story properly I think.

"I could go to Spain for years or whatever, but I think it hopefully gives a truthful end to Lisa's story."

Emmerdale currently airs weekdays at 7pm, with an extra episode at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays on ITV.
