Emmerdale star Liam Fox's fiancée Joanna Hudson has opened up about nearly dying from a tumour.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, Hudson recalled that she was ill four years ago and explained that she appreciates life more than ever as a result of her experience.

"I was seriously ill in 2015 and nearly lost my life, which makes me appreciate what I have with Liam even more," she said.

"I nearly died from a tumour. When it was discovered, I was weeks away from death.

"I realised something was wrong when I started getting double vision, so I went to Specsavers who gave me glasses, but that didn't help.

"I was eventually referred to a consultant and was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis."

Hudson said that she would have died had the tumour – "caused by the illness growing on [her] thymus gland" – not been discovered.

"I had it removed, and three months later I was fully recovered," she added. "I go for regular scans to make sure it hasn't come back, but so far I've been fine."

Hudson also praised her husband for being by her side and helping her raise money for charity.

"Seeing how supportive he was really made me realise what a great guy he is," she said.

Emmerdale currently airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with extra episodes at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
