Emmerdale star Lisa Riley discusses possible Mandy and Paddy reunion

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has opened up about the fate of her on-screen character Mandy's relationship with former husband Paddy Dingle (Dominic Brunt).

Mandy and Paddy have a long history, having married in 1999. Things took a turn for the worst with the pair breaking up and Mandy leaving for a life in London not long after.

Lisa returned to the role of Mandy in 2019 and it's clear that she still holds her ex dear.

In scenes to come next week, Paddy's estranged wife, Chas (Lucy Pargeter), makes it clear that she wants her husband back, and despite Mandy also wanting Paddy, he only sees her as a friend.

Having to act as Paddy's confidant, Mandy must listen to him debate if he should get back with Chas after they kissed.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Lisa revealed that the time is not quite right for the duo to reconnect romantically, but it is a waiting game.

When asked if it has been challenging for Mandy to hide her true feelings for Paddy, Lisa said: "Yeah. She doesn't want to; she just wants Paddy. But she's so frightened of getting hurt.

"We've got to play it out because Paddy's poorly."

Paddy has been battling with his mental health, with Emmerdale even airing a special male only episode, where the male characters discussed their feelings.

With Mandy firmly positioning herself as a supportive friend while keeping her feelings hidden, she has hinted that she will find the opportune moment.

She said: "It's what the audience wants, but Paddy has to get well. Mandy knows him getting well is the better ending."

"You can't give the audience that too quickly. Otherwise, it's just like 'And then what?'".

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
