Emmerdale bosses haven't killed off Adam Barton despite Friday night's worrying cliffhanger.

Some fans were left concerned over Adam's fate when his mum Moira received the traumatic news that his body might have been found.

The show's latest episode saw DS Benton pay another visit to Moira at the farm, asking some strange questions about Adam going on the run.

When Moira sensed that something was amiss, DS Benton explained that a body had been found in a harbour near Prague – hinting that Adam's great escape might have gone badly wrong.

Police had found a fake passport showing Adam's photo in a pocket on the dead man's clothes, leaving Moira utterly convinced that she'd tragically lost another child.

Fortunately, Emmerdale fans don't have to spend their weekend worrying that the show has killed off Adam Thomas's popular character off screen. In a recent chat, Natalie J Robb – who plays Moira – confirmed that the body isn't actually Adam Barton. Phew!

"It's not him," Natalie explained. "It's really traumatic, as the police come round with the photographs and Moira has to look at the dead body. Ross is standing by Moira's side and he is really helping her through it.

"Ross goes to look and in the end Moira says 'I have to do it'. So she looks, realises it's not Adam and breaks down. It was horrible to film Moira looking at the pictures, you think: 'Not another child that has died.'"

The short-lived worry over Adam builds up to a bigger storyline, as Moira feels terrible over Ross being the one who supported her through the difficult day.

Moira's guilt leads to her confessing to Ross that she was the one who killed his mum Emma, sparking a furious reaction from the village's bad boy.

Michael Parr, who plays Ross, recently revealed: "As you can imagine, Ross's reaction is pretty physical. Straight off the bat, Ross's default setting is attack, so that is what he does.

"Immediately all Ross hears is that someone has killed his mum, and it's a mixed bag because he did want her dead at that time. Had Pete done it, then I think he is the only one that would make Ross have said 'Okay, we won't say anything about this'.

"Moira does try and explain what happened, but when she tells that story, it just brings a whole lot of other things up for Ross, like that Moira has always been the reason that Ross has had a troubled childhood. He thinks: 'If it wasn't for you in my life, I might have turned out like the rest of them.' So he wants to remove her from the picture."

Emmerdale continues on Monday (January 15) at 7pm on ITV.
