Emmerdale stars Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden have secretly gone and got married, nine whole years after getting engaged.

OK! Magazine revealed the news, alongside some wedding snaps of the pair – who met on the set of Emmerdale in 2007 and have two children together.

According to Charley and Matthew, guests didn't even know they were going to a wedding – instead they were under the impression that they were attending Charley's 30th birthday.

Indeed, they were only let in on the surprise when they arrived at Ripley Castle in Harrogate.

Speaking to OK!, Charley said: "That moment when we announced what we were doing and seeing everybody's reaction is the best moment of my life.

"This way we got to do it totally the way we wanted – it wasn't traditional, we didn't have a sit-down meal and there weren't loads of speeches.

"Someone once told me their friend had a surprise wedding and it stuck in my mind."

Matthew added: "We couldn't have had a better response. People just screamed for about 10 minutes!

"It's funny to think that our guests thought they were coming to Charley's 30th party – then we told them it was our wedding!

"It wasn't the most traditional wedding, but we wanted it to be different."

Charley's brother and Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas gave Charley away, while Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter was one of her bridesmaids.
