Emmerdale is staying silent over claims that Lachlan White will murder two characters, in what is being described as a "proper Emmerdale bloodbath".

The response followed a story published by The Mirror, whose sources claimed Lachlan would finish what he started by murdering his grandfather Lawrence, while Emma Barton would also get caught up and killed off.

An Emmerdale spokesperson told Digital Spy: "We never comment on storyline speculation or artists' contracts."

The claims suggest the plot twist, which will see the demise of the two characters, will play out in the run-up to Christmas and "change" the soap.

They also imply actor John Bowe, who plays Lawrence, was unhappy with his exit from the soap, having previously been killed off in Coronation Street.

Bowe played Duggie Ferguson on ITV's sister soap from 1999 - 2002, before he was killed after falling through a bannister and plunging to his death.

Lachlan was previously cleared of shooting Lawrence, while Andy Sugden is on the run after being wrongly accused of committing the crime.

However, Lachlan was later found guilty of perverting the course of justice and thrown in jail.

It won't be the last we'll see of Lachlan, however, so keep your eyes peeled for more trouble from him.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
