Viewers watched on as Emma - played by Gillian Kearney - pushed poor James Barton (Bill Ward) off a bridge, causing a devastating crash which involved a number of the characters, including dementia sufferer Ashley (John Middleton).

Fans are now freaking out that Emma, who fled the scene, will try to blame the incident on Ashley, who wandered off after somehow escaping the incident unharmed.

The car pile-up also involved Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Livesy’s (Danny Miller) motor which ended up in a lake and left the latter fighting for his life.

What’s more, Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and his ex Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) are also in a critical condition after their car got smashed up.

Fans are aware at least one character is going to meet their maker having seen a funeral scene featuring an unnamed coffin at the beginning of each episode this week - but they are unsure just who dies.

But Dominic let slip on Thursday that “up to three” characters could perish.
