Emmerdale may have said goodbye to Jessie Dingle in last night's episode, but that doesn't mean that her ex-husband Al Chapman is ready to stop making Marlon's life a misery.

Last week, Marlon (Mark Charnock) was devastated to learn that Jessie (Sandra Marvin) had cheated on him with her ex-husband Al (Michael Wildman), marking the beginning of the end for their marriage.

Despite Jessie giving Marlon one final offer in an attempt to save their marriage, the couple soon realised it was over, and Jessie left the village for a teaching job in Dubai in Monday night's episode.

Tonight's episode (September 17) picked up in the aftermath of the end of the marriage, with Marlon's friends and relatives rallying around the heartbroken chef to offer their support.

But later, on the way to the pub, Marlon ran into Al, who clearly decided the time was right to rub a little salt into the wound and quickly started taunting his love rival.

"I am really sorry for the way things turned out," Al said, prompting Marlon to reply: "For sleeping with my wife you mean?"

"I couldn't help myself," Al continued. "The way she came onto me was so strong... Marlon, don't blame yourself, mate. Not every man could give a woman what she needs. But it hurts, right?"

With Al clearly attempting to provoke Marlon into a fight, viewers were furious at Al's attitude – and many praised Marlon for not lowering himself to Al's level, and for being able to walk away from an unnecessary fight:

Back at the pub, Aaron and Robert gave Marlon a pat on the back, saying that it was sensible to avoid getting into a fight. (And they would know.)

However, all Marlon could think about was his ruined marriage with Jessie and how the woman he loved betrayed him in the worst possible way. Will Marlon find happiness again?

Emmerdale currently airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
