Emmerdale's Arthur left heartbroken over possible Marshall departure

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Arthur Thomas receives some sad news next week, as he learns that he could be torn apart from his friend and possible love interest Marshall.

Arthur has wrestled with his feelings for his schoolmate over the past few weeks, but Marshall has been keeping his distance after his father Colin expressed homophobic views.

Next week, Arthur tries to focus on giving a speech at an LGBTQ+ History Month celebration in the village, and Laurel couldn't be prouder of her son as she sees him taking centre stage.

Things seem to be looking up when Marshall stays to listen to his speech. After previously telling Arthur they couldn't even be friends, his support seems to mark a change of heart.

Later though, things take a turn for the worse when Colin finds Arthur and Marshall chatting outside the village hall.

Colin cruelly insults Arthur and marches off with Marshall.

The next day, Arthur gets upset when Marshall reveals that his dad is planning to send him away to boarding school.

Marshall continues to dismiss his feelings for Arthur, claiming they were only ever friends.

Arthur knows differently, as Marshall had previously acknowledged his feelings for him before Colin started to interfere. Will Marshall really leave?

During an appearance on ITV1's Loose Women earlier this month, Emmerdale's executive producer Jane Hudson spoke about the future of Arthur's storyline.

Hudson commented: "It's been such a lovely story and I'm so proud of Alfie [Clarke], who plays Arthur. He's done it so brilliantly.

"It's not just a story about coming out as gay. It's a story about teenage love and teenage angst. I think we all remember when we first broke up and we thought: 'Oh, I'm never going to find love again!'"

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
