Emmerdale has hinted at a possible turning point for Jacob Gallagher as he tries to move forward with his life.

Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) is about to receive the news that Maya Stepney has been released from prison, which threatens to destroy the recent progress he has made.

However, brand new spoilers have suggested that Jacob will ultimately remain on the right track with the support of his family.

Next week's episodes will see Jacob make plans to start seeing a counsellor to talk through what happened with Maya.

David is on hand to support his stepson as he prepares for the next step.

Monday's episode saw David and Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) start worrying after the news that Maya had been let out of jail early for good behaviour.

Maya groomed Jacob and received a 12-month sentence after pleading guilty to sending him inappropriate texts when he was 15. She avoided more serious charges as Jacob had refused to give any evidence against her.

Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David, recently said: "David thinks it will set Jacob back once Maya is out. His biggest fear is that Jacob will try to find her, even though Jacob has said he's over Maya and doesn't want anything to do with her anymore.

"Jacob has come to terms with the fact that it was abuse, he was underage, and he was groomed. But David is worried that it could set Jacob back massively and he could go to find her.

"It's Leyla that convinces David to tell Jacob. They decide not to treat him like a child anymore and he needs to know. They tell him together. Jacob is very cool about it – quite oddly cool.

"It's a strange reaction to what he's been told. He just says: 'Thanks for telling me'. He says he doesn't want to talk about it, as he's over it now."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
