Emmerdale's Meena Jutla is one to watch after sinister scenes

·4-min read

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale appears to have revealed the show's next big villain, with Meena Jutla taking sinister steps in her mission to reunite Manpreet Sharma and Charles Anderson.

Meena has spent months trying to convince her sister that she should end things with her husband Rishi and reconcile with her ex-fiancé Charles, although Manpreet has repeatedly refused to listen to her advice.

With Charles now in the early stages of a relationship with Andrea Tate, another obstacle now stands in the way of Meena's matchmaking mission – and that's where Thursday night's startling scenes came in.

As Charles and Andrea made plans to go away on a camping trip together, Meena intervened to ruin things by luring Andrea's new pet dog Princess into the car and shutting her inside.

The sun was beating down mercilessly on the vehicle, creating an unbearable temperature for poor Princess. Fortunately, the cute pooch was rescued when David Metcalfe found her struggling in the vehicle, but she was in a bad way with signs of heatstroke and needed emergency attention at the vets.

Meena got her way when Charles and Andrea were forced to cancel their trip due to the upsetting events of the day.

The identity of the culprit was initially unclear until we saw that Meena was in possession of Princess's favourite toy, which she'd used to lure the animal into the car.

While it's not the first time we've seen Meena up to no good, her shocking actions do now raise the question of just how far she'll go in order to get her own way.

Meena already crossed a line a few weeks ago when she impersonated Ethan's long-lost mum in some sneaky text messages, which was another convoluted way of drawing Manpreet closer to the Andersons again.

The nurse's latest scheme was on a whole other level, though, with Princess lucky to be alive. The RSPCA's website warns of the serious dangers of leaving dogs in cars on a warm day – even when it's 22 degrees outside, the temperature inside a vehicle can reach up to 47 degrees within an hour.

Another big question is why Meena is actually doing all of this – but answers are coming sooner than you may think.

We already know that Meena's schemes all revolve heavily around her relentless desire to see Manpreet and Charles back together.

Currently, it's unclear why Meena is so obsessed overseeing Manpreet with the "right" man – but Friday night's episode will offer some insight as some of her past is revealed.

When Meena gets chatting to unlikely confidante Diane Sugden at the beauty salon, she shares details of her backstory for the first time, which viewers are currently unaware of.

Further down the line, Emmerdale bosses have tipped Meena as one to watch over the summer too.

Meena is currently in a relationship with David, but her desire to take things further with him will be undermined when his son Jacob makes a return.

Jacob's presence ruins Meena's plan to move in with David, which once again raises the question of just how far Meena will go to get what she wants.

Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks recently told Digital Spy and other media: "Meena has rocked the village and manipulated her way into people's affections. This is a woman who will do anything or everything to get what she wants.

"This is the start of a gripping and enthralling story that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats and shouting at the television as they struggle to keep up with Meena's impetus and volatile ways.

"It's a story we hope will get the nation talking and guessing what Meena is going to do next."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
